Usually I take the neutral stance, but considering the circumstances, I'm not going to hesitate. The fact is, there are some crimes that cannot be compensated by a jail sentence. The whole concept of "doing the time" was introduced was so that people understand that their actions are wrong. Essentially, it's a slap on the wrist to ne'er-do-wells. Once they walk out into the free world, what's going to stop them from do the same thing again? Another jail sentence? It's catch-22. And since I was present at this debate, and also privvy to your take, there's a lote more to consider than morals when it comes to capital punishment. Like you said, it costs less to kill a very sick person than it is to house them in jail and waste taxes on rehab. Fortunately for the rest of us who abide by some sense of sanity, we'll have less to worry about the next time we're on the streets - it's not like the dead are going to rise up again, right?
